Student spotlight: Casey Moyer

Age: 15

Location: Brentwood, California

Instrument: Saxophone

Mentor: Legendary saxophonist Bill Evans

Meet Casey Moyer—a powerhouse of talent and humility at just 15 years old. His musical journey began in 7th grade when he came home and told his mom, “I joined the band—so I need a saxophone.” From that moment on, his love for music—especially jazz—has grown into something extraordinary.

Casey now plays in just about every music ensemble he can find: marching band, concert band, jazz band, jazz combo, and Latin combo. He was the only freshman accepted into the Contra Costa County Honor Jazz Band, where he earned the top spot as first tenor saxophone.

And recently? Casey played saxophone on the streets of New Orleans—his first time performing in public like that. Even more impressive: he had only started playing soprano sax one month before the trip. Talk about fearless.

He also competed in the Sonoma State Jazz Band Competition, where—at just 15—he took home 1st place for a solo award.

We’re proud to have paired Casey with Bill Evans, one of the most iconic saxophonists in jazz history. Their mentorship has been deeply inspiring. Casey is more passionate than ever, and the experience is already shaping his musical future.

We’re excited to share that Casey has signed up for four more lessons with Bill to continue honing his craft. His journey is just getting started.

Check out a short clip of Casey in action—doing what he loves most.

Stay tuned as his musical path unfolds. We can’t wait to see where it leads.
